Christina Tutsch (she/her)

Christina (she/her) is the founder of the Wonder Outdoor School. Personally and professionally, adventuring in the outdoors has been a capstone of her life. She feels she is her best self when in the outdoors. Her outdoor adventures have formed her closest friendships, strongest memories and the foundation of her family life. She grew up adventuring in Ontario and when introduced to multi-day self-propelled adventures in high school, she felt a sense of belonging. She has dedicated her career to outdoor education and guiding. She lived in British Columbia for over a decade and explored much of it by canoe, kayak, skis, bike or by foot. Recently, she’s moved back to Ontario to be closer to family.

Through the last five years, many things have inspired the Wonder Outdoor School. Firstly, Christina has had a deep reckoning with privilege and whiteness surrounding outdoor spaces. Second is the accessibility of online platforms for teaching. Thirdly, Christina became a mother and was inspired to find new ways to share her passion and expertise. From these reflections along with community encouragement, the Wonder Outdoor School was born about two years ago.

Relevant certifications and memberships: Current 80-hr Wilderness First Aid, Paddle Canada canoe instructor, Sea Kayak Guide Alliance of BC kayak instructor, BC College of Teachers membership, Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Practitioner.

“Christina is a great communicator, honest, punctual, and professional. Her course was not only informative, but also very enjoyable. I left humbled by the associated risks yet better prepared to manage them; I've found new excitement and confidence in exploring our backcountry."
